    Keyboardist needed
Note that I didn't say 'bassist & keyboardist needed'

Yes, half of this quest for the holy grail has ended. It's been a painstaking journey, but at the end of it we've found an Edwina to join us on our final quest for that keyboardist. It's a bittersweet feeling, but it's what we started out looking for and the day has arrived.

Anyway, with that out of the way, if anyone's interested, here's the latest Sub-Culture news. After taking a couple of months off we've recruited a new member, Julia who'll be taking over on bass and some vocals too. We've also managed to get our paws on some decent new equipment and as a result sound quite different and better dare I say it, to our previous incarnation
To mark the occasion we'll be re-kicking things off again at The Fan Club @ The Verge on Saturday 6th November, 2004 along with Shard.
    Other dates lined up are:
Club Noir @ Madame JoJos (with The Modern) on 24th November, 2004.
Pulse @ Whitechapel Art Gallery on Thursday 27th January, 2005
It'd be nice to see some of you there.

In the meantime, if you want to hear our latest demo tracks, head to www.sub-culturemusic.co.uk and download them from the MP3's page. Feel free to email us your feedback or leave a message for us on the messageboard.

I've been Eddie, and you've been wonderful.
    Good night

    Things are looking up
Last year people cancelled my gigs without telling me. This year, they're arranging them without telling me. An improvement I think. Anyway, what with you knowing my influences it gives me great pleasure to announce that I'll be playing at a New Order/The Smiths/Pet Shop Boys themed night. Could we make that Kraftwerk, Bowie, Manics and Bauhaus as well please?

It's at The Dirge, sorry, The Verge on 31st Jan 2004.
It costs £4 with a flyer which you can get along with the full details of the night from
    http://www.sub-culturemusic.co.uk (on the live page)
    It's from 8pm - 2am and I am onstage at 9pm sharp.

    Hope to see you there.

    I've not gone anywhere.
Yes, despite the inactivity on "my" journal I am still here.
I thought that seeing as people had been such generally good sports about my quest for a bassist and keyboardist the least I could let them do is hear how I got on without them.
So, without further ado, here is a track off my self-recorded demo.
    http://www.geocities.com/sub_culturemusic/Blackmail.mp3
You'll need to 'right-click' and choose 'Save Target As' to download it. There is also a link on my sister site http://www.sub-culturemusic.co.uk
Feel free to comment at will.
If I indeed do ever find my elusive bassist and keyboardist I shall return. If not, then goodbye.

Until the next time (which may be sooner than you think)
    Edward.

    And then they were three...
Hello, I am not Eddie and there is no such person as Eddie after all; I am [info]thermaland. Since the imaginary Eddie's very real band, Subculture has now actually launched itself, and because these guys have been awfully good sports about the tons of ridicule we have poured over their perfectly cromulent ad, I thought I'd check out their debut gig and and give them the opportunity to smash any unused bass or keyboard over my empty head (instead they were very nice). I'd also like to close this journal in a proper way. Although we've had a lot of fun doing this, I don't particularly like being the monkey throwing peanuts at people who are actually getting off their arse and doing something.

So down I went to the Verge in Kentish Town on Friday night to attend the first Subculture gig. On my own, that's right, none of these other bozos who contributed to this journal (and there were 7 or 8 of us) could be bothered. Weak, you guys... (OK some had good excuses).

I must admit that it was weirdly satisfying to see them play their first gig without the bassist and keyboardist they so wanted. Once a Quest is accomplished, there is nothing left to do but to close the book, and besides the poor lads or lasses would have had to be just awesomely perfect to fil those mighty posts. But I hope they do find them of course and get on with it.

So what is the band like? At the moment they are a three-piece (vocals, guitar, and one of those keyboards you strap around, plus a drum machine) who sound nothing like Bowie, Bauhaus or the Manics (not that they ever said they did); Kraftwerk and Joy Division are more like it: this is COLD music that takes you back to 1980 immediately. They do need the extra musos to beef up the sound some, and perhaps some drums, it's quite tinny at the moment and the one keyboard sound gets a bit grating after a while, but the songs are there and the stage presence ditto. The singer particularly has a splendidly evil aura (think Brett Anderson meets Trent Reznor) as you can judge from the photos below. His eyes are not actually red, you may have guessed, but his outfit is really like that. So all in all I guess what I am trying to say is that not only they're not a joke band, but they are definitely worth checking out.

Right, it remains for me to show you at bloody last what Eddie1, Eddie2 and Not Eddie 3 (I think of him as the Flock of Seagulls one but hey it's just me) look like, but not before a last one for the road...

    EDDIE IN GIG SHOCKER!
    (reposted from ner.)

Yes, it's true. Eddie is being foisted on the public at long last. He told me to let you know the following.

His electro group, Sub-Culture, are playing the Rabbit Hole@the verge, Kentish Town, on Friday 22nd August. He promises a lively set of thumping disco punk and would like you to come and see him.

He hopes that he has been worth the wait and also wants a copy of the infamous 'Bassist wanted!' T-shirts, if anyone can supply him one he is quite prepared to pay cash (though not euros; we don't know whether he is for the euro or against it, he's just too busy writing tunes that are influenced by New Order, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Bowie, TheCure, Bauhaus and the Manics.)

Anyway, it would be lovely to see you all there, and Eddie guarentees one thing; whether you get it or not, you certainly won't forget it.

Posted on June 13, 2003 at 09:55:05 AM by EDDIE!

Hi there, so you've been wondering quite what Eddie and his boyz have been up to. Well, in his conquest to secure a bassist and keyboardist to complete his line-up, Eddie stumbled across a far better idea to suit his electro a lot better than typical live instrumentation. He will release the details at a later date. He does, however, have a lingering fascination for bass players, and we would urge you to help him by sending anyone forward who would suit the position. Even if they can't play, send them forward anyway for a laff. Call 07766 341688. Eddie was very grateful for the t-shirt advertising campaign too, by the way. He sends his love.

Oh, and by the way: Influences include New Order, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Bowie, PSB, .............

    Friday Five!
    1. What was the first band you saw in concert? It was Suede. I'm so over it now.

    2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?. Bauhaus, or perhaps, Kraftwerk, or Joy Division. No, New Order. Or the Manics.

    3. What's your favorite song? 'I play bass' by Sack Trick

    4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?. Drums, guitar, triangle, percussions, trumpet, sax, I dunno.

    5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why? John Paul Jones. He played Moog and bass keyboard with his feet simultaneously on Kashmir, live. Handy.
